Colt Model 1908 Pocket Hammerless .380 ACP serial number 93754 - Factory letter indicates that this pistol was shipped January 24, 1929 with nickel finish, stocks not listed as a single gun shipment. It was sold to A.W. Skinner & Son and shipped to Weed & Co., Buffalo, New York. This Colt .380 is fitted with factory ivory medallion stocks, with "CJL" monogram in the left stock (added later) for Hazleton, Pennsylvania Mayor Clarence J. Lonzer who served from 1946 through 1949. Box is numbered to the gun.
"Clarence J. Lonzer continued the procession of Republicans into the mayor's chair with a decisive victory over Albert J. Reedy in the November 1945 election. The result was Lonzer, 5,001 and Reedy, 700. He occupied the city's top office from 1946 through 1949. Lonzer was a city councilman before seeking the mayorship. He was born in Hazleton, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob (Pfancook) Lonzer. His father was a pioneer saddler and was in business here for many years. When elected mayor Lonzer was district manager of the Sinclair Refining Company and had an extensive business throughout the Anthracite region. Prior to that he was engaged in the taxi business and was one of the first to establish a bus service in the region. One of four living former mayors, he is now retired. Kilner's successor is a member of the Elks, Eagles and Moose lodges and Hazleton Century Club."
