Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket .25 ACP serial number 409225 (ca. 1946) - This Colt Vest Pocket was one of 25 pistols shipped with blue finish and checkered wood stocks to Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Company on December 23, 1946. This what is known as a Pre/Post-War variation as it's assembled from pre-WWII parts, but shipped post-WWII. These pre/post-war examples were tank blued and were shipped with either hard rubber or checkered walnut stocks. Following WWII when the pre-war serial numbers terminated in the 409,000 range, Colt's jumped ahead and restarted the serial numbers at 420001. The pistols in the 420,000 serial number range ended at 420,705 when Colt's discontinued the model. One distinguishing characteristic of the guns in the 420,000 serial number range is that all have been observed with the single line slide marking on the left side of the slide. What makes this example unique is that it's in the 409,000 serial number range and has a matching numbered single line slide. The vibrant case colored trigger, thumb safety and grip safety are another characteristic that distinguishes their appearance from the very early models. These late examples are often encountered with full blue magazines. For more information on the pre/post-war Colt Vest Pocket Pistols, click here.
